CVBC -- Cedar Valley Bible Church

About CVBC

This list is primarily for the posting of prayer requests, announcements of church-related activities, and other announcements such as might be suitable for inclusion in the Sunday morning bulletin.

Examples of allowed messages include:

  • Prayer requests for yourself or on behalf of friends and relatives
  • Announcements of church-related activities such as might appear in the bulletin
  • Requests for help for a personal project like moving, painting, etc.

If prayer requests are made on behalf of people other than yourself, you should be close enough to these people to be able to provide follow-up information on the status of the situation about which you're posting.

In addition to the above, we will accept postings of "garage sale" items -- items you no longer want or need and are selling or giving away in order to clear some space. These messages are accepted from you (CVBC attendee) or members of your immediate family but not on behalf of others (friends, relatives, co-workers). "Others" also includes your employer, personally owned business, side-business, and hobbies. That is, we're talking about personal belongings, not the product of work intended to be sold or given away, whether or not there is a profit motive and whether or not the IRS defines your business as a "business". Specifically allowed (subject to the above) are:

  • Listings of items you're giving away instead of throwing away
  • Listings of personal items for sale

Information about activities not directly related to the church and in which family or friends are participating may be shared if they are of general interest to a large number of list members. Please use some restraint with these kinds of postings because if everyone posts announcements of every activity in which their child, relative, friend, or acquaintance is participating, the list will become useless for the more important business of prayer requests and church-related announcements.

Examples of allowed postings related to family activities include:

  • Invitations to a concert, play, sporting event, or other activity in which your child/friend/relative is participating and to which the public is invited (see exceptions below)
  • Reports from children, parents, friends, or relatives who are/were active at Cedar Valley but are now away from us for one reason or another

Examples of messages that are not allowed even though they fit one of the above categories include:

  • Announcements or invitations involving candidates for political office or campaigns on their behalf
  • Announcements or invitations to events sponsored by or featuring groups or individuals which are believed by the list moderators to be contrary to the mission or purpose of Cedar Valley Bible Church (rejection on this basis can be easily reversed by the elders)
  • Use of the list on behalf of others as a way of advertising a product, service, employment opportunity, or cause to the members of the church
  • Announcements of events in which you have no personal or family involvement. It's OK to announce your child's play, but not every play that comes to town that you happen to like.
  • Messages intended to spark discussion on any topic, even if directly related to the church or its teachings. This isn't a discussion forum; it's more like a bulletin board.
  • "Sermons", "revelations", "insights into the Word", and other broadcast messages intended to exhort, encourage, enlighten, convict, or convince others.
  • Messages in which the message (or a portion of the message) is sent as an attachment. Paste all desired content into the body of one message and then send the message to the list.

Please do not forward emails, clippings from Web pages, links to Web pages, or other similar items unless they specifically meet the qualifications above. If you are compelled to forward something to the list, clean it up so only the relevant material is included, and add a note of your own explaining your relationship to the person or people involved.

A message must clearly meet the qualifications of an allowed message to be posted to the list. Messages not explicitly allowed by the above rules are implicitly disallowed.

Messages you post will be reviewed by one of the list moderators to assure compliance with the rules prior to being posted to the list.
